John
H. Wyche is involved extensively in the Pensacola community.
He is a founding member of the Northwest Florida Coalition for
Community service (Englewood AmeriCorps Initiative), the Pensacola
Chamber of Commerce Minority Economic Development Committee, and the
Florida Black Business Support Coalition that began in 1997. He is on
the Board of Directors for Volunteer Pensacola, Community Drug &
Alcohol Board and Escambia County Healthy Start Coalition Board. He is a
former board member of Seminole Booster Club of Escambia County,
Escambia AIDS Services and Education (E.A.S.E.). He was co-chair of
Healthy Kids Program for Escambia County. He is associated with The Services Society, Air Force
Association, and Outstanding Young Men of America. He is the past
Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Project C.O.N.T.A.C. (Changing Our
Neighborhoods Through Academic Challenges) and Escambia County’s
Fatherhood Initiative. John
has also been a business and political consultant since 1993. He is a
graduate of Leadership Pensacola, Class of 1994. He has been a Project
Business Consultant for Junior Achievement. John is a former member of
the Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) and the DEC Steering Committee.
He was previously president of the Democratic Black Caucus of
Escambia County Florida. He
coordinated the Escambia County Democratic Headquarters in the 1992
election season
John
Wyche received a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration
and Management from Florida State University in 1980.
After graduating from college, John was commissioned an officer
in the United States Air Force. During
active duty, he was assigned to bases in South Carolina, Republic of the
Philippines, Texas, South Dakota, California, and Alaska. In
1990, he completed his Masters Degree in Business Administration,
specializing in Management Information Systems, at Incarnate Word
College in San Antonio, Texas.
While
serving his country, John received extensive training and developed
skills in leadership and administration. John had several notable
accomplishments during his Air Force service.
Most notable was his participation in development of a Joint
Services Check Cashing Policy. John led negotiations with other
Department of Defense grocery store and exchange officials in order to
adopt a uniform check cashing policy.
This policy resulted in improved check control and a verifiable
annual savings of $1.8 million. John
was a representative on a selectively manned staff in support of Desert
Shield and Desert Storm. His
leadership as the Chief of Services and Special Project Manager led to
Management awards in 1991.
After
returning to civilian life, John became an Insurance Advisor for
Prudential Preferred Financial Services.
He is licensed in Florida and Alabama to sell Life, Health, and
Disability Insurance, Variable and Fixed Annuities, as well as Mutual
Funds. John is National
Association of Securities Dealers Series 6 licensed and has been
associated with a prominent investment banker firm since 1994. He is
also a childcare television show and radio talk show host.
John
has put his Air Force career experience to work in the Pensacola
community. Currently, John is a Major in the United States Air Force
Reserve and is assigned to Special Operations at Duke Field in Florida.
He is also president of the 13th Chapter of the
Reserve Officers' Association. He
is an assistant professor of Aerospace Studies, Air Force ROTC at the
University of West Florida in Pensacola.
John is also the owner of Premier Cleaners in Pensacola, FL.
John
and his family attend Talbot Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where he is a
Trustee. John is a former
Lay Council Leader of thirteen churches, with over 1,500 members,
throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
John is also a Masonic Shriner.
John
Wyche was born on January 25, 1958, in Pensacola, Florida, the son of
the late Henry Wyche, a barber and the former Gladys Rothschild, a
substitute teacher.
John
is married to Alicia A. Wyche. John
and Alicia have one child, John H. Wyche II.
